Hundreds of guests and supporters of the Russian Jewish community joined Chamah to celebrate their 61st anniversary at the New York Academy of Medicine in Manhattan.
The gala event, organized by program director Rabbi Benzion Laskin and chaired by Attorney Ilya and Nechama Novofastovsky, celebrates the organization’s humanitarian and educational programs in Russia, Israel and the US.
Chamah, led by Rabbis Hillel Zaltzman, Moshiach Chudaitov and Binyomin Malachovski was established in the USSR in 1952 as an underground organization with the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s encouragement and support.
Over the past 60 years, Chamah has grown into an international organization serving Russian Jewry in Israel, Russia, and the United States, with programs for children, elderly, and the needy.
The event highlighted unique and life-saving programs that Chamah undertakes internationally, such as Chamah’s new Jewish Medical & Rehabilitation Center in Moscow, and the National Russian Shabbaton, which will take place this year in Stamford, CT.
Among the honorees were Mr. Michael Melohn, philanthropists Boris and Yana Kaplan and Dr. Igor Branovan.
One of the highlights of the evening was a wonderful Jewish Jazz concert originally composed and performed by internationally-acclaimed, award-winning Israeli composer Mrs. Zlata Razdolina, world renowned cellist Borislav Strulev accompanied by an orchestra of world-famous musicians and Broadway singing sensation Elmore James. The presentation was enjoyed by all in attendance.
Special thanks to Chamah office coordinator Mrs. Elana Fried -Litkovski for her contribution to the success of the Dinner.
The guests were then treated to a special video presentation, created by Moshe Raskin, highlighting the incredible work of Chamah for the past 60 years.
