Spotlight on Rabbi Soloveitchik’s Teacher

In a recently published memento, the story of the childhood teacher of Rabbi Yosef Dov Soloveitchik, is told as a part of an extensive historical account of the Pevzner family, descendants of Alter Rebbe’s brother.

“Many of my drashos are based upon the knowledge imparted to me by that melamed,” Rabbi Soloveitchik is quoted as saying, “Those who enjoy my drashos owe him a thank-you.”

Published in honor of the wedding of Mendel and Chaya Denburg, the memento also includes a biography of the kallah’s namesake, Mrs. Chaya Bronstein. The story of the family connection between the grandfather of the chosson, Reb Leibel Denburg, and the great-grandfather of the kallah, Reb Nissan Nemenov, and a story of a relative of the chosson, Mrs. Ida Bloomberg, known as the mother of the Lubavitch yeshivah in Montreal.

Rabbi Soloveitchik said that the Lubavitcher chossid’s teachings broadened his horizons in Judaism, “His method of speech uplifted and transformed me. At the time I was too young to truly comprehend many of his teachings. Only later did I understand and appreciate the lessons in their full depth.”
