Chanina Sperlin, Executive Vice President of the Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and member of the Vaad Hakohol, delivered the invocation at the Jan. 8 opening of the New York State Senate in Albany, NY.
Sperlin prayed for the members of the senate “to have success in leading the state and serving its people.”
He congratulated the new Majority Leader Malcolm Smith, and Crown Heights’ own State Senator Eric Adams.
Adams was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs. The responsibilities of the committee include the oversight of and approval of legislation for all aspects of homeland security, issues of concern to veterans, and military affairs as they relate to the State of New York.
Sperlin concluded with a prayer for the safety of the Israeli Defense Forces who are fighting for the country’s security and American troops fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
