With creativity hailing from 15 countries spanning four continents, 43 families of yaldei hashluchim united forces to publish a beautifully illustrated Megillas Esther just in time for Purim.
Mariasha Schtroks of Surrey, British Columbia could hardly wait as her printer spooled out page after page of her friends’ handiwork. A Lego scene of Esther revealing her identity as a Jew created by the Wilhelm family of Uzgorod, Ukraine was soon followed by a photo of the Boyarsky family of Ottawa, Canada in full costume, depicting the scene of Haman hanging on the gallows. With the entire text of the megilla seamlessly incorporated in clear typeset, Mariasha eagerly stapled the pages. “Wow! Look at the photos of the Jacobs family in Glasgow acting out Achashveirosh’s party! And look at that illustration of Hasoch, by the Silberstein family in London!”
Facilitated by Merkos Suite 302’s MyShliach, yaldei hashluchim around the world were invited to submit depictions of scenes from the story of the megillah. Their entries were then compiled into a downloadable megillah as well as entertaining slideshow. “The children’s effort and excitement in this project was almost tangible as I opened up each emailed submission,” exclaims project coordinator Mrs. Blumie Rosenfeld of MyShliach.
Rabbi Moshe Kotlarsky, vice chairman of Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch was pleased with the developments of the Yaldei HaShluchim Megillah. “Despite the hustle and bustle each of these children will experience this Purim within his own community as he assists his parents in bringing Purim to other Jews, the yaldei hashluchim will also transcend time zones and share a most exhilarating experience this Purim together with their fellow yaldei hashluchim as they each follow along in this most meaningful megillah,” he says.
