Rabbis do all sorts of unexpected things. While driving yellow cabs around New York City or wearing a camo suit aren’t usually part of their schedule, if that’s what it takes to get the message of Torah and Chasidus out—it’s just “another day at the office.”
For their upcoming course, My G-d: Defining the Divine, the Rohr Jewish Learning Institute (JLI) recruited several shluchim from the tristate area to switch out of their typical “rabbi garb” and star in a comical promo video titled “Rabbis Go Undercover.” Filmed around Brooklyn in a variety of public settings, the video tells the story of the amusing journey that JLI took to gather people’s questions on the nature and paradoxes of G-d.
My G-d: Defining the Divine is a brand-new course that addresses twenty-five of the most universally asked questions about G-d, such as: Does G-d have a gender? Do I need to fear G-d? Is there anything that G-d finds difficult to do? The course aims to provide answers in an open, inspiring, and practical way.
JLI staff says that the feedback has been great and they’ve already seen an uptick in registration for the course, which is being taught in close to four hundred communities starting in the beginning of November. People have called it “engaging, funny, and intriguing,” and something that “typifies everything JLI does.”
