In honor of Yud Tes Kislev, the Shluchim with families along part of interstate 74 (180 miles apart), met in the middle at Chabad of Peoria, the home of Rabbi Eli and Sarah Langsam, for a farbrengen.
Participants included the Tiechtel family of Champaign, IL, the Cadaner family of Quad Cities, IA and the Langsam family. The boys’ classmate from the Virgin Islands called in to join via telephone as well.
The group enjoyed a full meal, and the kids then joined for a special program with games, pesukim and nigunim.
The Shluchim then gathered for a farbrengen while the women enjoyed their own program as well.
“It was really special,” said Rabbi Tiechtel of Champaign, Illinois. “All the young Shluchim go to online school, and it was really exciting for them to see their friends in person.
“Living in cities alone, far from other Lubavitch children year round, this was a special time for them to connect,” he said.
The Farbrengen lasted way in to the night, before the Shluchim each headed on their way, southeast and northwest back to their makom hashlichus, with a renewed energy to go forward.
This is the 3rd year this farbrengen has taken place, in rotating locations each year.
A hachlata was made during the event to meet more often, and growing to include more Shluchim of this wide area. Plans are in the works for a unity Shabbos among the Sluchim as well.
