A special Shloshim memorial event was held at Chabad House of Hendon, London on Sunday in honour of the Shlucha Sara Leah Overlander who passed away last month after a long illness.
The event followed on from the hakomas matzeiva in the morning at the Adath Yisroel Beis Hachaim, where Rabbi Aryeh Sufrin, Director of Ilford Chabad House spoke words of chizuk.
The Shloshim event saw some 150 people pack into the Chabad House founded just 8 yeas ago by Rebbetzin Sara Leah and her husband of over 30 years, Rabbi Gershon Overlander. Since that time it has become a very popular and active centre for yiddishkeit and chassidus in Hendon and beyond.
The evening was emceed by Rabbi Mendel Plotke, deputy director of Chabad House and son in law of Rabbi and Rebbetzin Overlander.
Tributes and chizuk were given by the Rebbetzin’s brother-in-law Michael Overlander and Rov of Beis Gavriel Shul, Rabbi Menachem Junik. One of the family members present said, “Rabbi Overlander’s personal tribute tugged on all our hearts and the strength he showed in his delivery was amazing.”
Anyone wishing to donate to the special memorial fund in honour of the rebbetzin, which has been set up to make much needed physical improvements to the Chabad House of Hendon, can donate via http://www.justgiving.com/chadbad/donate

There must have been a lot more than 150 ppl there. I got there early and there was not a seat left. It spilled out into the room opposite and down the stairs.
A remarkable evening honouring a rare and remarkable Shlucha, who is no doubt working even harder to iberker a velt in her exalted and temporary place by the kisei hakovod.
We became friends when she was a student at SDSU and quickly became an integral part of our Chabad family. I watched her grow in Torah-true Yiddishkeit and was thrilled when she got married and went on Shlichus. She looked at you with piercing eyes that reached one’s soul; she listened with empathy. She was a Tzadaikes who is now being a meilitza yoshera for her family and Klal Yisroel. May her heilika neshama, together with her parents, have aliyahs in Gan Eden.
Sara Leah Overlander was a true tzadekes who influenced everyone whose life she touched for good. We will miss her.
