A rabbi from Montreal decided to build up a shelter in the corner of Monkland Boulevard during the Sukkah Holiday. He made the walls from recyclable pieces of cardboard and each and single piece of packaging material contains a peace slogan.
Rabbi Yisroel Bernath explained his initiative as being done “for peace”. “Our Jewish holiday is meant to remember the past and lasts eight days. But today (Sunday) is the most important day of all”.
A “sukkah” means a temporary shelter that provides shade; the walls of such a shelter can be built up from almost any material but the roof is a must to be made from “something that grew up from soil”.
A very imaginative person, rabbi Bernath took advantage of the holiday and used for the walls of his sukkah pieces of cardboard. Finally, after everything it was put in place he called the construction “the Peace Wall”.
