A letter from the Habosha family in Crown Heights:
At age 15, Orah Mital suffered a traumatic brain injury in a tragic car accident. Since that fateful day in 2007, she has been struggling to do all the things that used to come so easily to her.
Recovery from a traumatic brain injury is a very long and trying road. It requires expensive treatments and therapy sessions, as well as ceaseless patience and unwavering faith. Orah continues to amaze us all with her strength and courage to keep on trying.
This past month, as she turned 21 years of age, Orah is not able to receive therapy from the Board of Ed services in New York City. Our family is working tirelessly to come up with the funds to continue securing the best therapy and care for Orah.
It is imperative that Orah Mital continues getting the financial support that is needed for her to continue her therapy. She deserves to be given the chance to advance on her road to recovery. She has not given up until now and neither should we! Please help us help her!
It is extremely crucial that Orah Mital continues to get the financial support she deserves. That is why we have started “Light For Orah” to raise awareness of this situation and try to continue giving Orah Mital the proper care and support she desperately needs.
Orah Mital remains a constant shining light for those fortunate enough to know her; with her underlying faith in G-d and strength of character. We now have the opportunity to brighten up her world by giving her our support. All the money that is raised will go directly towards Orah Mital’s care, to help her continue on her road to recovery.

I encourage everyone to do as much as they can!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son, age 21 gets ssi and gets Medicaid and we have a letter that he will get medicare after age 22.
The family is so appreciative of everyone’s help. A positive tone goes a long way! Sometimes as much as a donation. There are simple ways to donate and it says so (I found it) on their site. They give an address to which you can mail a check.

Only people who receive Social Security Disability benefits (SSDI, not SSI) get Medicare after 24 months.
Please do not overlook #16s comment. Anat Baniel Method is known for its incredible success in helping people with all sorts of brain damage incredibly quickly and is based on the principles of neuroplasticity and has been backed by many big neuroscientists. this is not a stam alternative therapy it literally changes the brain at the cellular level. A huge portion. of every brain goes unused in everyone and this method will work to use available brain space to create new connections. They work with the brain which is what controls all of our functions. However they don’t neccessarily heal,… Read more »

She might qualify for Social Security Supplimentary Income. I had same problem. I hadn’t worked enough years as I was mostly a housewife. I do qualify now I’m disabled for SSSI. Check into it as by qualifying for it she also may be able to get part of medicare too. B’Chatzlacha!

The site gives you an option to sign up for an account but you don’t have to. You can donate without an account. I did it and it worked.
I went to the site to donate but was turned off by the request to set up an account. Please give me the option to just donate and leave without having to set up an acct with a password – in short- make it simple.
This Method is not covered by insurance. However it is an incredible method and has healed many people. If you haven’t already, contact Dvora New for further info.

Thank you for all your impute. B’h Orah Mital does have SSI but this does not cover even a quarter of her expenses per month especially now that all therapy will have to be out of pocket.
In regards to receiving Medicare after 2 years of being on SSI that is incorrect. I tried different avenues to figure out if she can get Medicare and unfortunately she cannot. If anyone has more information please email us at LightforOrah@gmail.com
Thank you Tizku lemitzvos
Her full name is Orah Mital Bas Bella, please continue to say tehilim for her!!
Just spoke with somebody, who tell that she can apply for SSI, because she has no income, and she is 21, her parents income will not be count, and she can apply for medicaid, if case will be denied, you can always re-apply,
After 2 years receiving SSI pt is avalable for medicare, because of dissability
We have so many local therapists of all types, maybe ppl can donate services?
She is eligible for SSI because she was disdabled before age 21, and through SSI she will get medicaid for 2 years and then get converted to medicare, which is even better
On top of this being a worthy cause we must remember that she was doing SHLICHUS at the time and was in a shlichus vehicle this should be a Chabad wide cause.
She is not eligible for Medicare as she was 15 years old at the time of the accident and didn’t work.
Thank you for the continued support. It costs about 150k a year with therapy and care for Orah Mital.
We have been looking into services for the past 6 months and unfortunately there isn’t much out there for adults that are of quality. I will look into MLTC thank you.
she maybe even elegible for the medicare
there must be other services for adults with TBI once they age out of Bd of Ed. I hope the family is looking into it.
They are entitled to a program called Medicaid Long Term Care (MLTC). They can access this through Metropolitan Jewish Care.
Hashem will see how we all help and stop these seemingly senseless tragedies!!
Ad mosai!
PLEASE TELL US HOW MUCH IN TOTAL IS NEEDED PER YEAR, so we can donate accordingly.
If it is $100,000 per year then my $1000 or $83/month is paying 1%
Thank you
WE ALL MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS
