After much negotiating with the Governer and elected officials, it was announced Monday that funds for senior centers in New York City will be fully restored.
The Shalom Senior Center of Crown Heights, one Brooklyn center which was in danger of closing if it lost critical funding, will now remain open due to this decision.
The only Kosher center within a 5-7 mile radius, its closure would have had grave effects on seniors depending on kosher hot nutritious meals delivered to their homes and the over 100 seniors who receive a broad spectrum of services and activities daily.
This decision means the city will once again be receiving $25 million as part of the state’s share of Title XX federal financing, which is directed toward senior centers.
The Crown Heights Jewish Community Council and the staff of the Shalom Senior Center thanked the Crown Heights community for writing letters to the Governer and elected officials about the matter.
Baruch Hashem!!!!!!
Great! I emailed the governor about this. Each email counts for something.
So glad to hear. The seniors need a place to meet, have meals together and enjoy programs and activities. I am so happy that it all worked out for them. Remember, these seniors are YOUR mothers and fathers and grandparents too. It is their turn to sit back and enjoy. Boruch Hashem!
great news. now we have to pray that they get enough funding, but we just have to be grateful because SO many services are being cut, it is shocking
Boruch Hashem
Voicing public opinion does wonders.
