After several years of negotiations, a dream came into fruition with the signing of an agreement between Yeshivas Bais Toras Menachem of Los-Angeles and ORT-College of Los-Angeles.
Students will study towards an associate’s degree in business management in the afternoon, while learning semicha together with chassidus and nigleh in the morning. Classes will be men’s only, and the calendar will follow that of Yeshiva – such as ample time for Pesach break and classes will take a standard summer recess. Students will be able to complete their semicha and associate’s degree in this novel two year program.
“There is a critical need for Yeshivos to adequately equip bochurim for marriage – which includes semicha and job-skills — to be future husbands and breadwinners,” says Mrs. Rivky Katz, Bais Toras Menachem co-founder.
As in previous years, the phenomenal semicha shiur will continue to be taught by the vibrant Rabbi Levi Chazan, and the testing will be by the esteemed Rabbi Elchonen Tauber, Rov and Dayan of K’hal Bais Yehuda of Los-Angeles. This is in keeping with the Rebbe’s Hora’ah of every bochur learning semicha, so that he will be well versed in practical Halacha with which to guide his family. This is in combination with a dynamic Chassidus shiur taught by Rabbi Shaya Berkowitz, which provides the flame of the program.
The novelty in this coming year’s program will be the synthesis of the above with the terrific opportunity provided by ORT-College of Los-Angeles. As put eloquently by Mr. Fred Keivanfar, Director of Admissions and Finance, ORT-College of Los-Angeles, “To enable our Orthodox young-men to earn a respectable parnassah to support their family is a tremendous mitzvah – without which a Jewish home cannot function.”
The college program will consist of a dual track program designed to accommodate students based on their academic skills. Students in track one will study for a 65 credit-hour associate’s degree in business management. Students in track two will study for a 32 credit hour diploma in accounting, alongside studying for their GED and furthering their English and Math skills.
“The evening class structure also provides an excellent opportunity for yungerleit to achieve a degree while working without having to enroll in a secular college,” says Rabbi Mordechai Katz, Dean of Bais Toras Menachem.
“This agreement is truly remarkable in so many respects,” says Rabbi Levi Bennish, current director of Bais Toras Menachem. “We greatly appreciate the dedication of ORT-College, headed by Mr. Joseph Neman, who in addition to making this program possible, has also ensured affordable tuition for our students.”

Great thanks to Rabbi and Mrs Katz! Changing LA and the bochurim for good!
I think the age they cater to is 19 and up but I know of a few mature 18 year olds they accepted…
This is such a wonderful opportunity to keep our young men in an appropriate setting while giving them the tools they need to succeed. Much success and brochos.
@7 the age varies, many boys in the program are below shuir daled age.
@11 yes there are accommodations, call the number at the end of the article
Wow This Yeshiva has really grown in leaps and bounds. Goes to show that if there is a will there is a way. Thank you for providing such a wonderful platform for today’s Bochurim with an eye open to the future! Hatzlocho Rabba. Yours truly, from the East Coast.
IS THERE SIMILIAR OPPURTUNITY IN NYC?
If yes please text eli 212 203 5030 or agristak@yahoo.com
Good job rebbetzin, wishing u the program the best.
Many many thanks to Mordy and Rivky Katz for organizing such a beautiful and much needed program. Your efforts will be well received.
Where can we obtain more information about this program? Are there living accommodations for out of town students?
I spy Yum Yum’s Tatti!
this program has come such a long way! the katz’s truly are amazing people
from what age is this program
what age does this start. shiur daled? and if your child has credits from his past years in accredited yeshivas how does that work?
That is a good suggestion, especially since the Rabbonim are encouraging bachurim to get married at a younger age, time to rethink the system so they are equipped to support their future family…although an AA is definitely a good start as well (many have mazal to get a good job with even less, it’s the skills and some type of degree which make a good keli, then mostly S’yata Dishmaya!
So important for today’s bachurim who will not go on official Shlichus.. it IS a mitzvah to be ‘m’farnes es baiso’ and thrive as a frum family, even be able to support Shluchim, mosdos one day…kol hakovod for this yeshiva!
This is very nice, but what we would really need is a four-year college degree as without a Bachelor’s it is very difficult to actually find a good job. An Associate’s degree in the final two years of Yeshiva Gedola and years 3 & 4 during the two years of Semicha would be ideal…

Congrats. to BTM on this great milestone…more programs needed like this one, Yasher koach to this dedicated staff who are in Chinuch for all the right reasons.
About time that there is a programs like this. Why are bochurim wasting so much time in Yeshivos with nothing to prove for themselves!
Yasher koach to the Katz’s — this is truly wonderful!
