In a momentous and emotional event, the Chabad community of Iarcho in Buenos Aires recently celebrated the completion and dedication of a new Sefer Torah in memory of the beloved Rabbi Refoel Lapidus, a pillar of their community. This Hachnasat Sefer Torah marked not just a spiritual occasion but also a heartfelt tribute to the enduring legacy of Rabbi Lapidus, who devoted his life to Jewish education, outreach, and Torah values.
The final letters of the Sefer Torah were written in a private gathering held in Rabbi Lapidus’s own home, surrounded by family and close friends. This intimate setting, filled with both joy and reverence, honored Rabbi Lapidus’s lifelong connection to the Torah. His home, which had been a source of warmth and guidance for so many, became the fitting place to conclude this sacred scroll.
Once the last letters were penned, a jubilant procession began, bringing the newly completed Sefer Torah to the Chabad Iarcho shul. The streets of Buenos Aires were filled with the lively sounds of song and dance as members of the community—young and old—danced with unbridled joy, escorting the Torah through the neighborhood.
The atmosphere was electric, as participants celebrated not just the Torah but also the rich legacy of Rabbi Lapidus.
As the Torah was brought into the shul, it was welcomed with great kavod (honor), as the congregation sang traditional niggunim and expressed their deep gratitude for the opportunity to perform this mitzvah in Rabbi Lapidus’s honor.
The event was a beautiful display of unity and faith, demonstrating how the memory of a cherished leader can inspire an entire community to come together in celebration of Torah and mitzvot. Rabbi Refoel Lapidus’s legacy will continue to shine brightly through this Sefer Torah, serving as a source of spiritual light for generations to come.
Chabad Iarcho, under the guidance of its leadership, expressed its heartfelt thanks to all who participated and contributed to this significant event. The community looks forward to many more joyous occasions where the Torah will continue to inspire, uplift, and unite.
May the soul of Rabbi Refoel Lapidus have an aliyah, and may his memory continue to be a blessing for all who knew him.
