A weekend in Brazil for 30 Chabad boys from three cities in South America concluded a months long campaign in honor of Gimmel Tammuz 5771.
Finalists of the Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos, a local version of the Rambam learning competition, traveled to Rio de Janeiro where they took their final test.
The program, which began on the 11th of Nissan, was to be a gift to the Rebbe on his 110th anniversary.
After nearly three months of studies, activities and events, a semifinalist competition was held in the Tiferet Synagogue. Finalists from each of the three schools then traveled to Rio de Janeiro for the grand finale.
The 30 finalists joined for a Shabbos in Rio de Janeiro. On Friday, after the written test, they enjoyed a brief tour of the city, culminating with a visit to Sugar Loaf.
The boys then enjoyed the Friday night meal hosted at local families.
After a beautiful Shabbos, it was time for the grand finale chidon, which was broadcast live via the internet so family and friends could follow the contest.
The judges, a panel of Rabbis, tested the finalists, and the winners received diplomas, books and awards.
