Jerusalem is known as “Shaarei Shomayim,” the gates of heaven. And it is here in Jerusalem where the doors of Mayanot’s Beit Medrash are always open for the thousands of students who enter the ‘gates of wisdom’ to learn, daven and drink from the deep waters of chasidus.
Recently, David and Eda Schottenstein of Columbus, Ohio dedicated the doors of the Mayanot Beit Midrash in Jerusalem in loving memory of their late grandparents: Leon and Jean Schottenstein, Meir Avner Levy, Mordechai and Rivkah Sirota and Tzvi Hirsh and Chaya Necha Zobin.
Rabbi Shlomo Gestetner, Mayanot’s Dean, spoke about the special zechus of partnering with Mayanot, where the students have made personal sacrifices in order to learn Torah and Chasidus. David Schottensein spoke about how privileged he felt to be part of the Mayanot family and how he hopes in the future to take time off from his business responsibilities and learn for a part of the year, full time, at Mayanot. Dr. Daniel Weunch, who recently joined the Mayanot Kollel, offered a personal perspective and spoke about his parents-in-law Leon and Jean Schottenstein and their love for Am Yisrael.
Rabbi Kasriel Shemtov, Executive director of Mayanot, closed the event with a call to other community members to follow David and Eda Schottenstein’s lead, which have made tzedaka a priority and are dedicated to ensuring the success of the Rebbe’s mosdos.
