Following a hugely successful Chanukah concert and celebration in Rostov attended by over 700 people, a group of 20 young adults have enthusiastically signed up for a Shabbaton trip to the city of Dnepropetrovsk.
This coming week, Rabbi Chaim Danzinger will lead this group of students to the Rebbe’s childhood home, where they will join with local youth in exciting lectures, activities and workshops to deepen their understanding of Judaism and their Jewish identify.
At the Chanukah concert, a moving sand art performance on video depicting the beauty of Chanukah and the history of Judaism over the past century in the Former Soviet Union sparked an awakening of interest in many of the guests. Aside from the public menorah lighting, many guests chose to light their own menorah, some for the first time in their lives.
Boys from the local Or Avner Jewish day school entertained guests with a lively traditional Jewish dance performance. The crowd loved the main singer from Moscow and even sang along as he perfomed famous Jewish songs in Yiddish, Hebrew and Russian.
The lights ignited on this holiday will surely continue to shine throughout the year, with the increased learning and observance among those who attended the celebration.
