On Rosh Chodesh Kislev 1977, the Rebbe left his office in 770 Eastern Parkway for the first time since suffering a major heart attack 5 weeks earlier, on the eve of Shemini Atzeres.
The Rebbe returned to his home, signaling his recovery. Chassidim all over rejoiced at the good news and to this day, the occasion is marked with a Chassidic farbrengen.
From that day on, the Rebbe redoubled his efforts on behalf of the Jewish nation and all of humanity, and for the dissemination of Torah and chassidism. From then on, the first of Kislev is celebrated as a day of thanksgiving and rejoicing.
The annual farbrengen was held on Thursday night at the main shul of 770 with chassidim and bochurim participating. Its organizer Rabbi Meir Harlig recounted the tales and Shliach Rabbi Moshe Lazar of Italy shared words of inspiration.
