There are always two sides to a story. What if it turns out that Ezagui did not do all the things that people claim he did? that he maliciously scammed them out of their money, but really did something good, by building affordable housing for our shechuna, where others were not willing to even try, and it turns out he did the right thing. and the people that are claiming that they got hurt by Ezagui, end up with a resolution in their favor, and furthermore a resolution against him, which could cost him many years in FEDERAL PRISON. Functional illiterate #76 is probably a relative and all I can say is kol hamevoreich yisboreich :). And I would rather be punished for the error of being too cautious than sit back and see more Yidden losing hard earned money to a known gonif. If Mrs Ezagui is in Eretz Yisroel she can easily get a letter from social services, or from a well run organization like Meir Panim that is not nogeia bedovor, confirming that she is truly in need. Otherwise, sorry, but anyone with half an ounce of seichel has reason to be suspicious. To me this… Read more »

1. Seems like there are only two people who are making all the negative comments, and they make it pretty clear that they are in court with Ezagui. 2. How was this a Ponzi scheme? The units cost $180,000 to build, the people got them for about $100,000, and he delivered deeds to most of the people. The few people he didn’t deliver deeds to have lived there, rent free for 8 years. They certainly go more than their original investiment back. 3. Can someone tell me how it helps the people who didn’t get their deeds for Ezagui to… Read more »

What horrible spin
May 13, 2009 4:13 pm

“Eliyahu has done all he could to try to save your homes and paid your mortgages for 10 years!! ” That is just such horrible spin it isn’t even worth thinking about. He took out those mortgages. They weren’t anyone elses. They were in his name (or his wife’s, his mothers, etc.). He was paying his own mortgage, and took $110,000 for the family living there on top of it. He may be innocent of the specific charges in Federal court right now, but he is not truely innocent. What is really sad is his children. They are the biggest… Read more »

shame on you for wishing someone bad. people are using this site to vent, ask questions or just say what they feel mrs. ezaugi started this by posting her letter on a public web site. what did she think was going to happen?
but not once did you see the innocent victims who bought homes from the ezaugi’s advertise their plight in a public forum or send letters out to every resident in ch. they did not ask for this to be all over the web. mrs ezaugi got what she asked for when she went public .

The apartments that were sold for cash is one problem. Then there are the apartments that were sold with deeds – but with liens against them for MILLIONS of dollars. And then there are the apartments that were “sold” but are still registered in the names of his mother and his sisters-in-law etc. And then there are the apartments which are still is his name, on which he still collects rent but which he never pays the maintainence. Where does that money go?Eli should sit with Bernie. They could teach each other hilchos gnaiva.

It is not the Jewish way to gloat at anothers’ misfortune, Regardless of Rabbis Schwei and Bogomilsky, the Aibishter will do as he sees fit. I for one have no sympathy for Eli Ezagui. As a member of the condo board at 770 Lefferts he was singularly unpleasant to deal with.Giving him the benefit of the doubt, that he thought he’d be able to pay off the fraudulent mortgages he took on other people’s apartments, he took a big gamble and he lost. I would rather send money to the people who will be put on the street due to his fraud and theft.

First you steal the money and then cry when you get caught shame on you

Maple members who “honored” him – where are you to bail out your Honoree????

Rabbi Shwei

I find it comical that he writes his letter for the cause. When I called him for a Din Torah to get my invested money back, he laughed and said “the Rabbonim here have no power, go to Boro Park or Flatbush”. Now he wants our money. Rabbi Shwei, you were one of the few that DID receive a title.

The Right Thing in The Wrong Way

I agree that despite the cause of their troubles, the Ezaguis should be helped as much as anyone else. What I don’t like is the tone of the letter — we did nothing wrong. It would be easier to have rachmones on the Ezaguis if they didn’t pretend that they are saints, and the wronged party to boot.

find it hard to care

i must admit I find it hard to have rachmonus on E. Ezagui. Granted his children are to be pitied but after what he did, there are quite a few other families with little children who are also living in fear.
They are also worried if they will have to move, will they lose their house….

Their kids are realy the ones suffering...

It seems that his children are the ones who suffered alot from their father going to jail.. its really a shame

Not really the place to ask for money…. Especially in this economy.

Maybe there are two sides to the story after all.
