Menachem Raitport (Republican-Conservative, Assembly District 43) held the grand opening of his campaign office, Sunday April 20, 2015. The event drew hundreds of volunteers, some of the media, and persons in the political sphere.
Former Congressman (and current Queens County Republican chair) Bob Turner spoke, offering anecdotes of his experience in the Congress. He pointed out the national and international implications of his largely-Jewish district’s Republican victory, and stressed that, as in his run, every vote counts.
For Brooklyn Republican chair Craig A. Eaton, who is also the N. Y. C. vice-chair of the State party, who spoke next, the victory of Mr. Turner, and subsequent win of former State Senator David Storobin, Republican-Conservative of Sheepshead Bay, joined with a victory for Crown Heights candidate Raitport, will send a clear message, that the residents of these neighborhoods are no longer taken for granted as Democrats.
Brooklyn Conservative Party vice-chair Francine Vella-Marrone then spoke, about the values of the Conservative Party, including family values, lesser government and respect for the religious institutions, and how, increasingly, Jewish neighborhoods are turning to the Conservative party’s candidates as a way of sending a message. Hundreds of Crown Heights residents have converted their enrollments from Democrat to Conservative and Republican in the last few weeks.
Candidate Raitport spoke, focusing on his background as a businessman operating his meat store on Kingston Avenue, a charity volunteer working on behalf of young couples, a member of the N. Y. C. Emergence Response Team, and a member of Shomrim, a patrol group, and on what he described as the pressing needs for the district: Support for those who use the private and parochial schools, tying increased building development to amenities for affordable housing and parking, slashing wasteful government spending and taxes, cutting red tape for business, and unhandcuffing the police, to fight crime, rather than spending increased time for summonses; and moving away bicycle- and bus-only- lanes when they interfere with commercial traffic; and a shift in early education towards making vocational educational available. These changes would directly increase employment.
Appearing at the event were several prominent members of the Rabbinical field, including Rabbi Shea Hecht, of the National Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education, Rabbi Yehoshua Balkany of Beth Jacob Girls’ Schools, and Rabbi Zaki Tamir, esq., the director of the influential Crown Heights Political Action Committee.
Present as local political leaders were: Stuart Balberg, Republican District Leader (43rd A. D.) and Cartrell Gore, Conservative District Leader (43rd A. D.)

If i am a registered republican, can i vote for Mendy?’
You CAN make a difference – VOTE! Get your neighbors & friends to vote. Schools should send notes home with the kids as a reminder. Get a car to go round reminding people to vote. Robo calls (I’ll let those go with no complaint.) Posters, flyers, door-to-door reminders. 2 weeks of hard work & Mendy is IN!!
The democratic party messed up on the registration so there is no democrat party candidate.
They will therefore be splitting their vote between the green party and a few other small ones.
This is also a special election that meams a very low turnout somewhere around 7000
If mendy gets just 3000 votes he will win
BS”D we had someone in elected office many years ago so it can be done, he was very effective, forget his name, Rosenfeld maybe??
we all must go out and vote

where is the PR where are the rallies? every person who can vote should go and vote look how they got obama into office there is no reason he cannot win.
where are his signs? where are the speakers they need to push out the vote
Being that this is a special election Mr. Raitport actually has a decent chance of winning. The only way this will happen though is if every eligible voter that is registered in Crown Heights goes and votes for him on May 5th. This is a message that has to be made clear to our community and as far as i can tell it is not at this point. With 2 weeks until the election it’s really surprising.
and come out as an entire community. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity (being that we are a minority in the area) for one of us to get into office. Let us not let the negative people in our community throw on this cold water saying “who does he think he is”, or “he is not fit for the job”. Amalek gets in anywhere it can, to ruin the really good opportunities. Hashem is giving us a rare opportunity for his Brochos for a better neighborhood, so let us make the Keli. All we need to do is… Read more »
