On Wednesday, the 4th of Tammuz, talmidim of the Oholei Torah Mesivta were tested on the entire 118 blatt gemorah after intense learning throughout the year.
The actual testing was done by HaRav HaGaon Gavriel Tzinner in Boro Park. Rabbi Tzinner was visibly impressed not only with the thorough knowledge of the gemorah, but also of the unique way of understanding of the subject, and the derech eretz the bochurim portrayed.
After the formal testing, Rabbi Tzinner shared with the bochurim his special connection with the Rebbe and even shared a handwritten note he received from the Rebbe, being a day after Gimmel Tammuz, this was very meaningful and much appreciated.
Special prizes and gifts were graciously donated by Rabbi Shimon Aaron Rosenfeld, in the zechus of his family.
An additional celebration was made for the bochurim of shiur aleph who learned the mesechta Sukka and Kuntres Ma’ayan.
The bochurim who participated in this event were Zusman Oster, Yisroel Brook, Shmuel Bryski, Shimon Gansburg, Aaron Liberov, Shmuel Morozow, Schneur Minsky, Levi Mintz, Mendy Sorkin, Chaim Simpson, Zalman Simpson, Yeshaya Rotenberg and Menachem M. Rotenberg.
Clearly the Rebbe was vocally passionate as to the main chunk of a Bochur’s day be spent on “Shtaiging” to (each one to) his fullest capacity! Never the less, Maamer Kollolei CHINUCH vehadracha, makes it very clear what they main priority of CHINUCH really is, MAINLY and MOST iMPORTANTLY to bring out the child’s Middos tovos and Inate Yiras Shomayim, (Aka: Derech eretz, mentshlichkeit, Respect, Seder, Self discipline, Kindness, Honesty, Humility, Chesed, Compassion for another, Agavas yisroel, Refined Appropreate speech, Following Halacha) Acquisition of knowledge was never more of a priority than Shmitas Halacha (Yiras Shomayim) and Middos Tovos, (Tikun… Read more »
Let me just point out a few points from some of the rebbes sichos.1. 1959 parshas kidoshi the rebbe says clearly: that THE IKAR INYAN OF A BOCHUR IS LIMUD (FIRST)HANIGLAH ,LIMUD CHASIDUS…2.in this weeks parsha 1969 the rebbe says:(with a louder voice) ITS 19 YEARS SINCE 1950 THT NO ONE IS WRITING IN TO ME THAT THY LEARNT 100’S OF DAFFIM GEMARA BA”P!? I’M SURE THY ARE SUCH BOCHURIM…SO, IF HE IS A DEPREST BOCHUR, HE WILL CONTINUE TO LEARN, WITHOUT HEARING ANYTHING ABOUT IT! BUT IF HE IS A REGULAR BOCHER HE WONT WANT TO CONTINUE LEARNING…AND IF… Read more »
There should be a DAILY shiur in the importance of having a beard. It seems that having a beard has RACHMONA LITZLON become “optional” instead of mandatory.
All the hundreds of blat gemora learned is WORTHLESS, ES IZ VERT AH ZETZ IN DERERD – if you can’t bring yourself to display with pride – what it means to be a TRUE chassidisher LUBAVITCHER bochur!
Those who talk tend not to be those with Yegiah and Lamdonus Those who talk in Kaddish tend to be those who as children were taught (incorrectly) that all really matter is Lamdonus (academics) their chinuch did not (sufficiantly stress and) emphasize the importance of Middos tovos and derech eretz (and yiras Hashem) If these kids felt that they can still achieve greatness simply by working on Middos tovos etc Then they would not be so resentful, rebellious and feel like nothing else really matters.bec they didn’t “make it” If they got the right message growing up, then they would… Read more »
comment 6, i agree was negative and inaccurate it says “chasidish ppl talk in middle of kadish” thats false! chasidish and talking in middle of kadish is OPPOSITE, just bec someone dresses chasidic style, doesnt make him deserve that title “chossid! chossid is one who ACTUALLY follows his Rebbeh! the Rebbe teaches that the IKAR of being a chossid is Yirash Shomayim and Middos tovos, and Avodas Hatfila, Lamdonus is nice but NOT an IKAR if it were, than the Rebbe would make it a condition for a shiduch, just like he does with Yiras Shomayim and Middos Tovos (the… Read more »
comment #1 is positive
it starts off by clearly agreeing that this is definitely “a GREAT accomplishment
seems to me, the point of comment #1 was to do the same (recognition) for the other EVEN MORE ASPECTS of chinuch, & chasidus,
Tikun Hamidos, Ahavas Hashem, Yiras Hashem, Avoda!
in lubavitch it was always a big and importent thing to learn gmara ba”p. the buchurim in tomchai tmimim hew wanted to visit the freerdike rebbe had to lean 40 daf ba”p.2) once, someone told the rebbe that a bochur learnt the hole babba basra ba”p and the rebbe stood up for him.3)since when is gemara not the ikar limud in lubavitch? a bochur must learn tew thirds nigla every day except shabis,so finely when bochurim do what the rebbe wants, they get t criticized !? c’mon!? perhaps this is also the resin why there are more and more shvache… Read more »
ideally, i would say you are right and yiras shomayim should be stressed more then learning. ideally, i would go further and say that it is “misnagdish” to make an article about bochurim who learnt gemorah ba’al peh (in chabad there were great geonim who no one ever bothered publicizing their geoinus) however in a doir where someone who raises more money becomes the “ma’an deomar” and “deiah zoger”, and when someone is big not because he is a chsidisher yid but just because he built a bigger building, it is a MITZVO RABO to applaud bochurim who are excelling… Read more »
Its nice the learnt gemorah. What really matter is that teaching these bocherim the importance of not talking in kadish , tefillen abd shul. Derech eretz kodma ltorah. You need to respect hashem before learning his torah. This is a major problem, and the fridke rebbe made a takana if someone talks in shul he should be thrown out. The rebbe did not talk or answer phones in the middle of kedusha. They are many people in crown heights are chasidish and very smart in learning. These same people have no respect for hashem and they blab away in shul… Read more »

why are you diminishing from learning torah – even while writing “not to diminish”! – that’s what yeshiva bochrim – even lubavitchers – are supposed to do!
yesh leha’atich ve’ein kan hamokom
the nekudah is that the IKOR of a bochur is limud hatorah – FACT!
mazel tov BOTH rotenbergs 2 brothers finishing it is a grate accomplishment
be careful to send the right signal to ALL the not-so-gifted students, who may not have been born with such academic capacity, be sure to send all the ta;midim the right message, that, to Hashem, what really matters most, is refined-character and following halacha m’yiras hashem, whether or not you memorized 118 blat and got all the attention is not whats most important! i happen to know one of these students, he is a very well mannered young man, and seemingly a real yorei shomayim, if only, those qualities were highlighted as the ikar, as a chabad yeshivah is supposed… Read more »
Lets hope that these mechanchem have for themselves yedidim mevinim to whom they routinely consult and ask for guidance what to do (visavi chinuch) and how to do things consistent with the Rebbe’s teachings, so that our schools retain (and not alienate) as many students as possible.
but howabout equal recognition and celebration of those students whove exelled in the area of
Middos Tovos?
Yiras shomayim?
Seder?
Mivtzoyim”?
Ahavas yisroel?
Yegiah/Avodah? (effort)
While having amaizing memory and concentration is laudable, shouldnt the main message be Yiras Shomayim and Middos Tovos as what really matters most (to Hashem and) in real day to day life?!
again not knocking this achievement, just waiting to see the mechanchim treat the most important aspects of chinuch with (at least) the same emphasis as academic skill and labor
…..
Looking forward to the rest of the positive “contests” and reports!
