These days before the 30th Yom HaHillulah of our beloved Rebbe, my thoughts turn to the relationship I had with the Rebbe.
I contemplate the zchus given to me to serve the Rebbe and bask in his holy presence ever since I was a bochur. What began then, in my student years, and continued through all the ensuing years, leaves me feeling overwhelmed.
קטונתי מכל החסדים
Those were truly days (years) of glory. My memories of the days, the hours and the minutes with the Rebbe continue to sustain me now, in my advanced years. I never took them for granted. It wasn’t possible. In the Rebbe’s proximity—as many of you may have experienced—every moment was so alive as to never become routine.
I miss those days. My heart is filled with a deep sense of longing.
But I must harness those feelings into action.
I know that like me, each one of us wants to retain and strengthen our bond with the Rebbe. Especially this year, marking the 30th Gimmel Tammuz, שלשים לכח, we must do more. Leading up to Gimmel Tammuz, we each need to increase in our commitment to the Rebbe’s call: Set goals for ourselves with regard to the Rebbe’s 10-plus mivtzoim: bring another woman to light Shabbos candles, another man to commit to tefillin, another house to go kosher.
And we must dedicate more time to study the Rebbe’s Torah. Take time to study a maamar or a sicha in greater depth. Invite someone else to do the same.
Yes, we must disseminate the Rebbe’s Torah!
In fact, I believe that while millions know of the Rebbe’s leadership, more need to be made aware of the Rebbe’s deep and expansive Torah. This is an area, I feel, that warrants our attention. With countless sichos and maamarim, the Rebbe has left klal Yisrael a treasure trove of Torah that enriches our lives.
Toward this end, Machne Israel just published a journal of original essays by thinkers from various backgrounds. Produced by Lubavitch International with its stellar trademark quality, the 72-page journal features the work of 12 scholars of diverse backgrounds who were invited to reflect on an aspect of the Rebbe’s Torah that resonated with them.
Get a copy of this beautiful journal for yourself, for your friends, for others who are not aware of how multi-faceted the Rebbe’s Torah is. Use it to advance the mandate of יפוצו מעיינותיך חוצה. I believe it will inspire every reader to look more closely into this dimension of the Rebbe’s legacy, engage with it and make them find their own chelek in the Rebbe’s Torah.
In the zechus of our individual and collective efforts towards the auspicious date–this 30th Gimmel Tammuz–may we merit the fulfillment of the Mishnah:
שֶׁיבְנֶה בית המקדש בִּמְהֵרָה בְּיָמֵינו וְתֵן חֶלְקֵנוּ בְּתוֹרָתֶךָ
