Rabbi Meir Gol, Director of the Chabad Yeshiva in Kiryat Ata, shared the following:
I have a regular shiur that I present in a private home for about 20 people who aren’t observant yet.
A few months ago, one of the participants named Yael told me that she has been having pain in her back and general weakness. She said she was concerned.
I advised her to visit a ‘rofeh yedid’ (a doctor who is also a friend, as the Rebbe would direct). After a series of checks, it turned out that Yael had a malignant growth.
They turned to me again for guidance. I suggested they write to the Rebbe and in order for his blessing to take hold, they should make a good resolution.
In one of our upcoming shiurim, we discussed what the Alter Rebbe writes in Tanya that when a merciful father punishes his son, the child doesn’t run away but thinks what’s his father trying to teach him.
That is when Yael and her husband agreed to take a ‘hachlata tova’ (good resolution). She was going to start keeping Shabbos and he would start putting on Tefillin.
Days have passed and her pain was intensifying. They turned to me again and I suggested that the husband join her in keeping Shabbos. It wasn’t easy for them but that stuck to it.
A brother of Yael, who saw her ongoing suffering, decided he will travel to the Rebbe’s Ohel in New York and daven for a miracle.
Yael also opened a volume of Igros Kodesh in which the Rebbe writes about the value of making blessings and praising Hashem. The family decided to start saying brachos before eating and drinking.
Last week, on Monday of Chanukah, I see on my phone that Yael’s son has been trying to reach me – repeatedly. My heart stuck as I feared the worst may have happened.
When I answered the call, he sounded extremely emotional.
“Mom just got from another check-up and the doctors said she has nothing! The growth disappeared!”
We were blessed to organize a seudas hodaya with the entire family on the 7th day of Chanukah to celebrate “the miracles and wonders.”
