Rabbi Shmuel Moshe Hakohen Benjamin, a devoted and beloved educator to hundreds of students for the past 25 years, passed away on Shabbos, 5 Kislev, 5784.
He was 57.
With a constant smile on his face, Rabbi Benjamin was a most devoted Mechanech of Oholei Torah Pre1A for twenty-five years, educating hundreds of Talmidim, imbuing a love of Yiddishkeit and laying strong foundations for them during those formative years. With unparalleled dedication, Rabbi Benjamin taught his many Talmidim the Aleph Beis with total kedusha and purity, permeating the lessons with Yiras Shomayim and Chassidishkeit, and ensuring each student had the tools they needed to succeed in their subsequent years of Chinuch.
In recent years, despite his medical treatments, Rabbi Benjamin came into his job at Oholei Torah at all possible times.
Rabbi Benjamin cherished each and every Talmid, keeping a connection with many of them years later. Talmidim fondly remember his animated and engaging lessons, as well as the deep care he had for each and every one of his students.
With Rabbi Benjiman’s encouragement and full support he staunchly stood by his wife Devorah’s side, as she runs Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kalla, an organization that provides necessary funds and support for Chassanim and Kallahs.
Originally from Sydney, Australia, Rabbi Benjamin went to Torah Or in Eretz Yisrael, and with the influence of Oholei Torah Talmidei Shluchim to Sydney, Australia he came to Lubavitch and learned in Yeshiva Gedolah in Melbourne, as well as in 770.
He is survived by his wife Devorah and children, Chaya and Yosef.
He is also survived by his parents, Avigdor Chaim and Freida Rachel, and his two brothers, Jonathan and Adam, as well as his in-laws, Pinchas and Mina Gold.
The Levaya will take place tomorrow, Sunday, passing Oholei Torah at 10:30 AM where the entire Cheder will take part in it. The Levaya will pass by 770 at 10:45 AM.

So sad.
Along with his wife, they must have made weddings for hundreds of orphans and now they have their own orphans.
Now would be a good time to help the organization as the organization may not be able to fundraise for a while.

A BIG SHOCK!
Such a patient husband, and a devoted teacher, very down to earth, very warm and open. His Aishes Chayil Devorah together with their two children should have Arichas Yomim.
HE WILL BE MISSED TO OUR COMMUNITY IN Crown Heights!
A truly special man! Grateful to have had him in our lives for the short amount of time we knew him. May Hashem comfort his family.
There was no one quite like Rabbi Benjamin. We will greatly miss his presence in the community. BDE
He was my teacher in otc
BD”E We will all miss a truly extraordinary human being from an amazing family. Rabbi Benjamin was a living example of a true Chossid. I spent hours in their home watching him raise his children with love and all things important to the Rebbe! His incredible wife, Devorah, gives so much of her time and strength to bring joy to others, all while caring for her family and husband. May Hashem provide comfort and joy to individuals who live to bring joy to others. —A friend from Boca Raton, Florida.
We are so sad. May Hashem give Devorah and his children strength during this most difficult time.
You were very well liked and always had a smile and a kind word (and sometimes birkas kohanim) for others 💜
A real warm chosid, always a pleasure to see him with his big warm smile
This is a big loss for our community, may Hashem comfort the family! Moshiach now!
BDE – We need the Geulah THIS MINUTE !!!!!!!!!!
Rabbi Benjamin taught our sons and each one feels such a connection to him even many years later. He was such a warm and honest person. He will be sorely missed 🙁

As a former SEIT in his classroom. I only have fond memories of Rabbi Benjamin. Picture this: First day at work, anxious about my first day on the job. I walk through the doors of Oholei Torah. Rabbi Benjamin, with a heart of gold and genuine smile welcomes me into the classroom, as one of their own, and integrated me into the classroom. He taught me so much that there is to know about chasidishe Chinuch. Lessons that I took on with me working at other schools. Anyone I know asks me about where I learnt specific methods, and I… Read more »
the world has just lost a GIANT CHOSID :((((
His amazing wife & children have the zchus to belong by his side ,no more suffering HASHEM how can you do this to such wonderful people. PLZ HELP DVORAH thru this horribly sad time.
Living with Rabbi Benjamin and his crew for a whopping 20 years was pure magic. That grin in the pic? It lit up the whole place, every single time. Big love and good vibes to his awesome fam, rolling with the punches and keeping it real. Here’s to the tears and laughter, making a life story that hits you right in the feels.
May his neshama have an aliyah. Moshiach now!!
If a fund page for the family has been set up, can someone please post it so people can give directly to them.
I had the double Zchus of being a student in his class in Pre-1a, and then coming back 18 years later for another year as a Para in his class. He still had the same excitement and chayus in teaching all those years later, as he did back when he started. I was able to observe how he treated every student like his own son. Making sure no one felt left out, and each one felt that they were part of what he was teaching. Whenever he would see me, he always had a smile and a kind word to… Read more »
may Hashem comfort his wife, children and all those who knew him
Back in the early 2000ds we lived in Crown Heights, for Two Year’s, I hardly knew Rabbi Benjamin, but I always knew his face. I’ll never forget. But a small thing that became a BIG thing as we got older. He singled me out, in 770, and explained “greetings to Crown Heights” but …… remember as much as we think we know everyone/and everything, there’s way more to learn, It really had an impact in my life, and I still hold to it. May the Neshama Have Aliyah. WE’VE LOST A BIG HUGE GIANT IN OUR COMMUNITY. Of, of course… Read more »

Ad mosai. I have simply no words. My heart is heavy and unable to process.
Aibishter, how much more pain can we endure? What a huge loss to the entire community.
My dear Devorah, Chaya and Yosef, may Hashem send you strength and comfort during this rough time. May u know of no more suffering and sorrow.
so sad he was such a nice person and devoted to his talmidim
May his special wife and children be comforted . Moshiach now !
Rabbi Benjamin was the epitome of a chassid. I had my first son in his class. I wasnt sure the exact hair style and all that. He kindly explained to me that the way we cut our sons hair is the way a Chassid should look etc and then to add humor said this is not Bais Rivka no need for bangs. Lesson learned in a sweet way.
I have only beautiful memories of him, full of Chayus, life and positivity! Years after he was my teacher, he would always greet me and smile and say hello with genuine happiness!
ברוך דיין האמת!
I saw him in the hallways of oholei torah. Such a big warm personality, a happy smile on his face. And I didn’t even know him and I feel so sad.
As a bochor shmuley was a shabbos guest many times at my home. His a group of Australian friends were always beSimcha. Even as a brochur he was a real oived es Hashem. Devorah was the real ezer kenegdoy. What they have done to help people over the course of the last quarter of a century is unbelievable. Shmuely you will be sorely missed by so many people. BDE.
That’s all.
Rabbi Benjamin was my teacher and 20 years later he never forgot me, every time I saw him he would greet me so warmly with a smile. A gem of a person and a caring teacher.
Thank you for everything rebbi
You will be missed
He was my teacher i remembered it well because it was the first class you take in oholay torah, he made sure I felt comfortable and was always nice
So sad BDE
best teacher full of love and warmth will never forget that year
may the family be comforted and only good news
It made a huge difference to me and my family that I could look like a queen doing the Mitzvah of kisuy Rosh without the financial stress. Wishing her so much comfort and a long life
Such a beautiful person through and through. He had patience for all walks of life! He truly lived for the Rebbe daily. He was such a warm person, he stood behind Devorah with the utmost dedication.
Oh no! Shmuel! This is dreadful news! Crying in Jerusalem. Devorah and family, so sorry for your loss.
Rabbi Benjamin will truly be missed. Always a smile. Always lighting up the room. An example of a chosid and melamed par excellence. I had my son in his class many years ago, he imparted true Chassidishe chinuch to him and all the students. A true Yirai Shimayim. Someone we can ALL learn from. והחי יתן אל לבו….
והקיצו ורננו שוכני עפר והוא בתוכם.
Shmuel a”h was a natural born melamed. Very close to our family, he came with us to Baltimore for our oldest son’s lechayim. There were quite a few young children at that gathering. Though he was a stranger in town, within minutes he had the kids gathered around him listening to him tell chasidishe stories. As I say, a natural melamed.
This can’t be what a amazing rabbi
We are closer than ever in Jewish history to the final redemption What a loss to many. Bde
He was likable and very well liked
BDE
So so sorry for the family’s and community’s heartbreaking loss.
Hashem should comfort Devorah, their children, parents and extended family amongst the mourners of Zion and Yerushalayim in the knowledge that his light and legacy lives on.
He and Devorah have touched so many lives not just in CH but around the world.
May his memory be a blessing.
BDE.
A tremendous loss for the community.
He was my substitute teacher in Uly op
In the early 90

He was gentle and eidel as a person. He taught his talmidim yeras shamiyim and lived it. No fancy shirts, pants or shoes, basic chossid. Halevay we live as simple as he did, not forgetting his coffee and smile. Der Eibersther will comfort the family with only simchos and the biggest simchas der geulah bekoruv.

R’ Shmuel was a kind, patient and humble man and a devoted husband and father. Hashem should comfort his family and bench them, and he should be a gutte better

Very sad to hear about his passing. He was a wonderful good hearted person. We enjoyed hundreds of shabbosim together in shul and will truly miss his presence and warm smile for all.
He made Crown Heights special to newcomers and visitors. This is terrible beyond words. Moshiach is coming. He’s with the Rebbe. We need to wake up and bring Moshiach. The best of Crown Heights is gone.
