Last Sunday the Jewish community of Krefeld, Germany came together to pay their respects to the memory of the over 33,771 Jewish men, women and children who were brutally murdered by the Nazis 70 years ago.
A member of the community who originates from Kiev prepared a photographic exhibition which depicts the savagery of the perpetrators of these crimes against our nation and humanity.
Rabbi Yisroel Meir Lau spoke in Yiddish to the audience by video link. His main message was that we should not be misled into thinking that the civilized world will protect us from our enemies. They stood idly by when Babi Yar took place and also on Kristallnacht. Because of this the Nazis realised that they could get away with doing to us whatever they wanted.
The Rov of the community, Rabbi Yitzchok Mendel Wagner, also spoke at the event and drew attention to the recent speech of the Iranian president at the UN when he yet again expressed doubts about the authenticity of the Holocaust.
Rabbi Wagner showed the audience a family photo of a cousin, aged 2, who was buried alive in Babi Yar along with thousands of other children.
He said there are so many other testimonies and proofs that confirm the terrible misfortunes that our nation suffered during those dark years of World War II and yet there are still people who are trying to convince the world that nothing happened.
“This re-enforces what Rabbi Lau said about never trusting in the protection of other nations,” he said.

It’s more of a Polisher Yiddish. He spoke so beautifully with so much hope but realistic about what the truth really is.
