During his very active and public lifetime, prominent Brooklyn Rabbi Avrohom Dov Hecht held meetings with many known rabbis and dignitaries.
Holding important roles – vice president of the Sephardic Rabbinical Council, president of Rabbinical Council for Syrian Jewry in North America and president of the Rabbinical Alliance of America – made him a force to be reckoned with.
He met Israeli statesmen Chaim Herzog, Yitzchak Navon, Yitzchak Rabin, Shimon Peres and Ariel Sharon, as well as the country’s leading rabbis such as the mekubal Rabbi Yitzchak Kaduri and Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
From photos provided by the family, he looked equality at ease and charming while meeting with President Jimmy Carter in the White House or New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani at a social function.
What was common in all of his dealings was his relentless energy and outspokenness on behalf of Judaism, Jewish community causes and concern and the safety for the land of Israel and its citizens.
As the family ended the Shivah mourning period after his passing, we present a collection of photos of some of his VIP meetings.
