R’ Yakov Halevi Klappholz, a resident of New Jersey who was a physicist and engineer, passed away on Tuesday, 10 Elul, 5778.
He was 81.
Born in New Jersey, R’ Yakov resided with his parents in Newark until their untimely passing when he was just a young boy.
Lubavitcher Rabbis, Rabbi Shmuel Pesach Bogomilsky and Rabbi Sholom Ber Gordon obm took him in, and ensured he was raised in a Jewish environment.
He graduated college with degrees in physics and engineering and worked for the United States Army. In his capacity as a civilian contractor in an army base he instituted a daily Minyan for Mincha along with a daily Shiur catering to the Jewish Army personnel as well as the civilian contractors.
He was known for his diligence in ensuring that he daven every Tefillah with a Minyan, often walking great distances to ensure he never missed a chance. He kept a strict daily Shiur as well.
In recent years he moved to Crown Heights.
He is survived by his children Shaina Katz – Crown Heights, Reuven Klappholz – Boro Park, NY and Chaim Klappholz – New Jersey.
He was predeceased by his wife Chana Necha Klappholz OBM.
The Levaya will take place tomorrow, leaving Shomrei Hadas in Boro Park at 10:00 am on its way to the King Solomon cemetery in Clifton, New Jersey.

I had the Zchus to learn with Mr Klappholz on many occasions when I taught my father’s Shiurim. He was exceptional man who loved learning Torah and put great effort into attending the Shiurim of my father.

Recently, we had the privilege of meeting Mr. Klappholz at his daughter’s bungalow. He had a friendly demeanor and it was apparent that he was quite intelligent with all his wits. Much sympathy to the family and blessing for sharing your loving home with your father in his time of need.
