R’ Mordechai Cheifetz (1889 – 1941), known as “Motel Disner,” was a prominent Chossid in Latvia before the Holocaust. Born in Disna, he studied at the Tomchei Temimim Yeshiva in Lubavitch and became a close disciple of the Rebbe Rashab. He served as a shochet in Riga and was deeply involved in Chabad activities, including co-leading the Riga branch of Achos Temimim, a Chabad women’s organization. In 1938, the Frierdiker Rebbe sent him as an emissary to the United States to spread Chassidus, after which he returned to Riga. Despite the Frierdiker Rebbe’s efforts to save him during World War II, Rabbi Mordechai was martyred in 1941.
