Purim is a time of celebration, feasting, and charity, as well as the reading of the biblical Book of Esther. This year, Rabbi Schneur Oirechman of Chabad Lubavitch of the Panhandle Tallahassee and FSU, spread the joy of Purim to State Representatives, State Agencies and the Governor’s executive staff in the Florida Capitol.
Rabbi Oirechman, director of Chabad Lubavitch of the Panhandle Tallahassee and Florida State University, is an advocate for Israel and the Jewish community in the political sphere and has worked closely with government officials to promote awareness and understanding of Jewish values and traditions in Florida.
In his Purim outreach efforts, Rabbi Oirechman visited various state representatives and agencies to share the story and spirit of the holiday. Chabad of Tallahassee Co-Director, Chana Oirechman, Director of Government Relations & Student Engagement, Matthew Boggan, as well as Rabbi Eliezer Reinhold, the shliach’s father in law, also went along to spread the holiday cheer.
He brought along traditional Purim treats, such as hamantaschen (triangular-shaped cookies filled with fruit or other sweet fillings).
Rabbi Oirechman read the Megillah on Purim with Dave Kerner, Executive Director of Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
Rabbi Oirechman’s visits were not only a way to share the holiday with others but also to build bridges of understanding and connection between the Jewish community and the wider public.
By engaging with state representatives and agencies, he was able to introduce them to the unique customs and traditions of Purim, as well as the broader Jewish community.
Furthermore, Rabbi Oirechman’s efforts served as a reminder of the importance of building relationships between different communities, particularly in the political arena.
In an increasingly polarized world, it is more important than ever to find common ground and work towards understanding and cooperation.
The response to Rabbi Oirechman’s Purim outreach was overwhelmingly positive, with many representatives and agencies expressing gratitude for the opportunity to learn more about the holiday and the Jewish community. Some even shared photos of their Purim celebrations on social media, highlighting the impact of Rabbi Oirechman’s efforts in bringing people together.
Rabbi Oirechman’s Purim outreach serves as a shining example of the power of community and connection. By sharing the joy and meaning of the holiday with state representatives and agencies, he not only helped to spread awareness and understanding but also fostered relationships of mutual respect and cooperation. May his efforts continue to inspire us all to reach out and build bridges of connection and understanding in our own communities.

Much Hatzlacha in everything.
