38 years ago, on Shushan Purim Katan 1984, the Rebbe revealed how the joy of Purim Katan is so profound that we can’t even be told to be happy then because that would downgrade the joy. Rabbi YY Jacobson taught this incredible Sicha in three classes.
The Rebbe, in this historic Sicha, explained how Purim Katan’s Joy Is a Foretaste of the Geulah Happiness: Nobody Has to Tell You to Be Happy; it is organic, innate, and completely from within. When joy is about an obligation, it gets diminished by the sense of duty and responsibility.
In this talk, the Rebbe explained why the entire Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim ends with the laws of Purim Katan and with the words from Proverbs: “A good heart is always feasting.” Because the end-goal of all of Shlchan Aruch, the ultimate experience of Yiddishkeit, is to experience an overflowing sense of joy and pleasure, that goes beyond obligation and fills your entire body with ecstasy.
The Sicha also addresses how joy at times can remain stuck in the brain, and not translate into a visceral experience. It is the energy of Purim that helps us remove the blockages of the body and feel joy and serenity in our very being and existence.
