From the Hecht family:
This coming month, on the 3rd of Teves, will be the first yarzeit of our dear father, Rabbi Peretz Hecht OBM, who was beloved and esteemed by the many students he taught and embraced with love.
He was a living example not only of one who was dedicated to learning but also one who lived what he learnt and that was key to the impact he had on his students. Numerous young men can attest to this aspect of him.
Reb Peretz, as he was affectionately called, warmed the space he occupied with chassidishe harzike varimkeit. He radiated the light of Torah and Chassidus, and was careful to accord due respect to every human being.
Our father’s talmidim, over a span of fifteen years that he taught in Oholei Torah, were fortunate individuals who truly can claim their stake of good fortune. The imprint he left them will forever influence and inspire their life’s journey.
Because what our father cared most about learning, was delving into the learning with “iyun” eyes and that is what he instilled into his talmidim. This is why the idea for “Pathways To Iyun” came about in his merit,
Keren Talmidei R’ Peretz has opened a door to new horizons in learning Gemara, that will serve to whet the appetite of Yeshiva bochurim and involve them in the learning process by bringing them to begin thinking more deeply and making it their own, with a geshmak.
The project has been launched this year 5774, at Oholei Torah, and other yeshivas. This project is a breakthrough in this field since nothing of its kind exists in English. The instructors choose relevant matters which are appealing to any bochur in any shiur. Worksheets in English for this bi-weekly series are written up professionally but avoid becoming too technical. The design of each page is also most attractive.
These sheets point the students to issues that need to be clarified and suggest questions that arise, thereby stimulating discussion and encouraging the student to delve further into the subject. Sources where the discussion of these topics can be found are also given.
We would like to invite the former students of R’ Perezt ben R’ Yehoshua OBM to participate with us in this special project that is already benefiting untold others, and may also continue to inspire them in their day to day limud hatorah.
Students of Rabbi Peretz Hecht are asked to please contact the Hecht Family c/o R. Kaplan at chabadpikesville@gmail.com or 410-486-1959 to participate in “Pathways To Iyun,” in preparation for the first yarzeit.
I knew him. once he asked me how i was doing or something. i had just finished davening. i didn’t answer right away.so he said your still in moichin. like your so deep in thought that you can’t answer. i thought it was nice of him.
WE’ll miss him. I’ll never forget the surprise birthday party we made for him. He was so moved. He was a special Jew. Really warm.
very befitting Reb Peretz had a true passion for understanding learning and sharing it.
