Some share the light, others worry about sharing the food.
Hundreds of Jewish families in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights neighborhood received free boxes of poultry in honor of the holiday of Chanukah.
They were distributed by Devorah Scheiner and the Yomtov Fund she has been running it to help the needy and the disadvantaged in the community.
On a cold winter morning last week, people gathered on Montgomery Street and enjoyed a hearty breakfast donated by Bunch O Bagels. Boxes of chicken were waiting for them to take home to their families.
The distribution which lasted for 3 hours was dedicated in memory of Leibel Zisman and in merit of Devora Rochel bas Miriam Chava, Yitzchok ben Bracha, Avigayil bas Feiga, and Sholom Mordechai halevi ben Rivkah.
In addition, Mrs. Scheiner took 7 local families to the grocery and filled each ones cart with $200 worth of produce. An single mother with 5 children was treated to a new coat for the cold winter.
She is an incredible woman…Hope we can all follow her lead.
How do families get on this list; There are so many families in need, especially those that are behind in mortgages and food comes last.
Neighbors caring AND doing for neighbors- may it always be thus. Surely Hashem is watching…
