Real estate developer and philanthropst Yossi Popack has undertaken to sponsor kapparos for visitors to Crown Heights.
The NCFJE, which has run kapparos since the 1970s, has kept the price of chickens artificially low for Crown Heights for the past several years. This discount was limited to residents, until Popack’s sponsorship extended that relief to include visitors who come to spend Tishrei with the Rebbe.
“Reb Yossi’s involvement with kapparos and the orchim is an outstanding show of ahavas Yisroel. I can’t stress enough how many visitors rely on his chesed. We’re all very, very grateful to him,” said Rabbi Shea Hecht, Chairman of the NCFJE.
Kaparos for Yom Kippur 5779 will be held this Monday, at two locations: Beth Rivka on the corner of Montgomery and Nostrand, starting at 5 pm (shechita begins at 9 pm); and 824 Eastern Parkway, at 6 pm (shechita begins at 10 pm).
While enough chickens have been ordered to accommodate the community, unforeseen shortages have occurred in the past. The NCFJE advises that nobody wait until the last moment to partake in kapparos, as chickens are available on a first-come-first-serve basis only.
For all your generosity
Mr. Popack for making this possible for our family!!
