In honor of Chanukah 5777, Bochurim from Yeshivas Lubavitch of Toronto, under the leadership of Rabbi Akiva Wagner, visited schools and Chabad Houses to perform an amazing Chanukah play.
It took much work, effort, and talent to accomplish, and in the end it was a smashing success.
The powerful message of Chanukah was brought and taught to over 1,000 young children, aging from 6 to 13, and parents alike, around the Greater Toronto Area. It had a tremendous effect on the viewers, and brought out the Jewish pride every single one of us must have wherever we are, and whenever it is!
The play was directed and made possible by Daniel Namdar, together with the help of general manager, Mendel Fayershtein.
The production was highly professional. It featured expensive lightings, run by Yankel Oster, and a high quality sound system including individual lapel microphones for all the actors, run by Zalmy Oster, Nachum Labkowsky, and Yakov Landa. Costumes, props, and backdrops were all made possible by Yerucham Engel. The play’s script, which had hours and sleepless nights put into it, was well written by Levi Weingarten, and Moishy Serebryansky.
The ferocious and intense aggressiveness of king Antiyochus Epiphanies was well portrayed by starring actor Berel Faiden, together with his general, right hand man, Mendel Kleyman.
A touch of comedy was well expressed by the two hilarious guards, Mendy Felberman, and Mendel Schmukler. Dovid Geisinsky starred as mighty Judah Maccabee, while right beside him were Moishy Serebryansky, and Menachem Wagner as the Yidden, Judah’s followers.
The show was performed at various schools and Chabad house events:
Hamilton Hebrew academy, JRCC of East Thornhill, JRCC wonderland, Beth Chabad Israeli Community Center of Toronto, Cheder Chabad of Toronto, and Chabad Romano Centre.

When I was a bochur (over a year ago became a baal habos) I learned in a few yeshivos. Mesivta, Zal year 1, Zal year 2, shlichus, smicha etc. Thinking back about ALL the yeshivas I was at, and they were all great yeshivos, Toronto is NO QUESTION the best one I was at. I didn’t realize at the time how much I grew there in chassidishkeit and learning. When I was there I would complain and kvetch about various things because I did not appreciate how much growth I was getting. I was “under construction”. When a place is… Read more »
