Yehoshua Engelson, a bochur who would explain the parsha on Shabbos at Chevra Ahavas Yisroel shul in Crown Heights, is active today with “religious rebels” in Los Angeles.
Here is what he told COLlive about the encounter on Friday:
I was sitting in the car, while my parents went into Whole Foods to shop for Shabbos. As I was waiting around, I said to myself, “I am a Lubavitcher chossid!” I usually bring along a pair of Tefillin because you never know who you are going to meet.
The person who I met said he was a small movie producer in the midst of making a film about the Holocaust. He said his father is not Jewish, but his mother is. Her maiden name is Chaimovich. He had a little boy with him.
He agreed to put on Tefillin then and there in the parking lot.
After saying Shemah, the man said he found it “artistically appropriate” as he was on his way back to Poland to continue producing the film.
As it so happens, a family friend was driving by and caught this picture with her iPhone while holding up the traffic for a few extra moments.
Go Josh!! 🙂
“I am a Lubavitcher chossid!” So whats with the shoes???????

To number 7, I can get you to reach Joshie post your email and I will get it to him
Thanks so much for your advice. however, the reason I want to get in touch specifically with this guy is because of what it says about him that he …”is active today with “religious rebels” in Los Angeles.” If you have any info, please post, thank you.
