Happy Chanukah, boys and girls! Welcome back to the Parsha Studio – Special Edition: Chanukah, Craft & Music.
When witnessing a miracle, there is an urge to celebrate and share the news excitedly. Chanukah commemorates miraculous events during the Chasmonaim Era.
Today, we will be crafting a flute and learning how to play the song “I Have a Little Dreidel”. The dreidel has four letters inscribed: Nun, Gimmel, Hey, and Shin. These letters represent the “Neis Gadol Hayah Sham” meaning “A great miracle happened there”. Chanukah is a holiday that celebrates the great miracles that Hashem did for the Jewish People. Every year, we celebrate the miracles that Hashem did for our ancestors. First, there was the miracle of the small Jewish army defeating the big Greek army. Second, was the miracle of finding a jug of oil to light the Menorah in the Beis Hamikdash. Finally, the miracle that the oil lasted for eight days instead of one day. When we play the dreidel, the letters on it remind us to celebrate all of these miracles.
