Well, really, 12-1/2 years. He opened just before Pesach 2001, and closed just before Rosh Hashanah that fall. We moved away from the Slope just before that Sukkot, after 9/11. The guy who owned it was a nice guy, I lived across the street from him after moving to Flatbush, but he had some odd ideas about running a restaurant, which didn’t work with the neighborhood. We ate at Chagall tonight for our anniversary. Great food, attentive service, food flavors & textures well balanced. And great company, since some of the old CBJ gang also came in that night.with good-sized… Read more »

it said in the past 15 years…..and there wasn’t anything kosher in park slope in the past 15 years.

Seven Tents failed because...
March 7, 2013 3:59 pm

…there was no sign, and he didn’t advertise at the hospital across the street, so nobody who didn’t already know about it knew it was there. Even if you passed by, you had no idea what sort of store it was, let alone that it was kosher. It was also ugly, with a dirty concrete floor and a big hole in the wall. A lot of people didn’t like the pizza sauce he used, and he refused to change it. The hours were erratic. And on the one day when he should have expected a large crowd — Rosh Chodesh… Read more »

Seven Tents was much more than a Pizza Shop. It offered a full vegetarian, cafe style, menu, plus a full selection of premium coffees and drinks.

From you comment, I presume you were actually never there. Which may be why it is no longer in business.

Amazing!
March 6, 2013 11:49 am

Went there with a few friends. The food was GREAT. The chicken and duck is definitely Chabad. You got to ask about the meat. Atmosphere was really pleasant and the owner is so nice!

YAY FINALLY
March 6, 2013 11:35 am

AND YES THERE DID USED TO BE A PIZZA SHOP ACROSS FROM METHODIST. AND IT WAS A GOOD ONE TOO!

A Dream Come True
March 6, 2013 10:49 am

As a long time Park Slope resident, it has long been my wish that someone open a kosher restaurant here. Lovely facility, charming owners, good food – – now we should support this bold investment in our community. Eat here and eat often. Spread the word to your friends.

What's the hechsher / shchita for the meat? Chicken ?

From webster.com:

“res·tau·rant
noun \ˈres-tə-ˌränt, -tränt also -t(ə-)rənt, -tərnta business establishment where meals or refreshments may be purchased”

Know the facts before discussing them

Great Place!
March 6, 2013 8:31 am

Meat or dairy?
March 6, 2013 7:23 am
The dairy place accross from methodist closed right after 9/11
March 6, 2013 7:22 am
Thank you to the owners
March 6, 2013 7:19 am

It is so special that the owners saw it necessary to open a kosher restaurant in Park Slope (so close to all the Jewish neighborhoods in Brooklyn). Our only job as kosher consumers is to patronize it and give it a good name (which I am sure it will have on its own). Come on people give a place a chance or speak to the owner of any kosher eatery about how they can beef… Read more »

Wondering...
March 6, 2013 6:34 am

Whose meat/chicken do they use?

The pizza store
March 6, 2013 1:46 am

The pizza store near the hospital was great, it was called seven tents (if my memory serves me write). they had really thin, crunchy pizza. Ah the memories.

Awesome News!
March 6, 2013 1:22 am

March 6, 2013 12:53 am

this is not the first restaurant to open in Park Slope… there was a kosher dairy restaurant across from Methodist Hospital some years back…
