Amidst the sunshine reflecting off the pool and backdrop of the peaceful and well-manicured green lawn, children giggle and run back and forth between the water and their toys. This fun environment is so different than back home – and so important too! The fresh air, the space, the relaxed atmosphere and ease of living in Orlando, Florida all contribute to making it a chief vacationing spot for an observant Jew. What was once a Pesach getaway location is now a year-round vacation destination, and it’s not just the beaches and parks that have made Orlando so desirable.
Since its inception more than twenty years ago, Chabad has serviced tourists to the best of its ability. Before restaurants and kosher food were available, Chabad catered and arranged kosher meals for tourists during the week and on Shabbos.
They provided minyanim, kashering services, villa kitchen turnovers and much more. When vacations turned into emergencies and hospital visits were needed, Chabad went, often bringing warm words and comfort food to the patients. Over the years they have helped thousands who feel hakoras hatov for all they have done.
Now, that chance is here. In order to once again step up and aid those coming to the area, Chabad of South Orlando is raising the funds to build its own Mikvah. As they brought food to the kosher stores, as they made villas available (before it was the popular thing to do) they are now making the mitzvah of family purity easier and more accessible for both the tourists and the local growing community.
