The Ohel of the third Chabad Rebbe Tzemach Tzedek, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneersohn (1789–1866), was fully renovated in the Russian town of Lyubavichi (Lubavitch), ahead of his yartzeit on the 13th of Nissan.
Located in the historic Jewish cemetery established in the early 19th century, it is also the Rebbe Maharash, Rabbi Shmuel Schneersohn (1834–1882), and Rebbetzins Sterna, Shaina and Mushka.
The renovation was sponsored by philanthropist Yossi Popack of the Five Towns in New York, whose grandfather studied at Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim, the first of many branches of Chabad yeshivas.
R’ Gavriel Gordon, the Shliach who oversees operations in the Lubavitch town, said a rabbinic committee supervised the project.
It was done with the help of Geder Avos Jewish Heritage Group’s support, and spurred by R’ Mendel Levin of Crown Heights.
