Cheder at the Ohel students had the privilege of being one of only 3 children’s groups ever to tour Jewish Educational Media’s offices in Crown Heights.
Director of JEM, Rabbi Elkanah Shmotkin, who has 2 sons leaning at Cheder at the Ohel, was the tour guide. The students were truly fascinated by all the media equipment.
They saw rooms filled with film archives with actual film. It was hard to fathom that what used to be so large is now stored on something as small as a computer chip.
The students saw some of the JEM employees at work editing footage of the Rebbe, adding subtitles and editing video interviews. They watched as the robot machine burnt the current week’s living Torah video onto hundreds of DVDs. They saw some of the pictures and video clips they were uploading to Timeless Moments with the Rebbe. JEM is working on projects where people will be able to type in their family name and see pictures and videos with their family getting dollars from the Rebbe.
Cheder students even saw pictures of the Rebbe that have not yet been published!
Since the students were at JEM in honor of the Rebbetzin Chaya Mushka’s yartziet, they were privileged to see footage of The Rebbetzin’s levaya and the Rebbe davening in his house during the shiva.
The students asked a lot of questions and found out interesting facts. Did you know that there are over 2000 hours of footage of the Rebbe handing out dollars?
One boy asked what they would do when everything was released. Rabbi Shmotkin answered that there is still so much to do that JEM will be around for quite a while.
At the end the children all agreed that even after Moshiach comes, JEM would still be busy — broadcasting live from Beis Chayenu!
we want moshiach now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Elkanah
