New York City Unveils New Upgraded Parking Meters

New York City Department of Transportation has unveiled upgraded, modern parking meters that will roll out citywide which are paperless and will allow users to enter their license plate number instead of displaying a receipt on their vehicle’s dashboard. Full Story

The new system requires longer time spent at the meter entering your information – especially if the car is not yours and you don’t know the plate number by heart.
You won’t be able to use someone else’s receipt anymore.
Amd something tells me that the paper savings will not roll into the payer’s pocket…

NYC got the muni meters the same week London got rid of them as they were outdated. 10 years ago (last time i was there) they had a system where there was a sign with a number on the block and users would text a dedicated number with the number on the sign and their card on file would get billed.

The city is looking to squeeze more revenue out of its residents because it is going bankrupt. Probably in no small part because of the overflow of illegal immigrants and the additional stupidity of giving them free debit cards.
