Rabbi Mendy and Esther Heber (nee Steinmetz), along with their daughter Devorah Leah, are the newest Chabad Shluchim to Williamsburg, Virginia.
Located between the James River and the York River, Williamsburg is home to hundreds of Jewish students at the prestigious William & Mary university founded in 1693. The city houses thousands of Jews in the greater Williamsburg area.
In addition, there are over four million tourists visiting Williamsburg every year.
In this rustic town that takes you back hundreds of years, the couple will be very busy reaching out to the varied religious needs of the local Jewish population.
Through Torah classes, Shabbos meals and Holiday programs, women’s circles, and Mitzvah booths, Mendy and Esther are committed to cultivating a strong Jewish presence in their new community.
They were appointed by the head shliach of Virginia, Rabbi Yossel Kranz.
It has been a challenging year for Virginians with the various lockdowns due to Covid 19. However, as restrictions are lifting, the timing is right for this young couple to begin reaching out to the Jewish community of Williamsburg.
“We are not looking (just) for charity,” says Rabbi Mendy Heber, “rather we are seeking partners to donate allowing us to do the Shlichus activities in a successful partnership!”
The couple will Be”h be bringing Chabad to Wiliamsberg right after Gimmel Tammuz.
