Rabbi Ephraim and Mushkie Zimmerman are the newest Chabad Shluchim to Southern Arizona and will be moving to Oro Valley, a suburban town north of Tucson, which was dubbed an “Upscale Tech Mecca” for being the home of 10 high tech firms.
They will be serving the spiritual, religious and educational needs of an estimated 1,000 Jewish families living in the area that was ranked #44 by Fortune Magazine on its list of “100 Best Places to Live and Launch” a business.
As a start, Chabad of Oro Valley will be offering regular Shabbos services and meals, along with adult education classes, holiday and youth programs and visitation to the ill and elderly, Rabbi Zimmerman said.
Ephraim was born in Chicago and Mushkie (nee Kahanov) in Jacksonville, FL. The appointment was made by Arizona’s Head Shliach Rabbi Zalman Levertov and Tucson’s Head Shliach Rabbi Yossie Shemtov.
The state has over 20 Shluchim. In Southern Arizona, in addition to Rabbi Yossie & Chanie Shemtov and Rabbi Yehuda & Feigie Ceitlin of Chabad Tucson, there’s Rabbi Yossi & Naomi Winner at Chabad at the University of Arizona and Rabbi Rami & Chani Bigelman of Chabad on River Rd.
