Manhattan’s East Village, iconic for its hip culture and its free spirit, will now be home to a new Chabad house directed by Rabbi Meir and Tani Lerman (nee Minkowitz) with their daughter Menucha. They will be working under the auspices of Tziurei Agudas Chabad and will be focusing their efforts to serving the families and seniors of the area.
With thousands of Jews in the area, Meir and Tani aim to create an oasis for all the Yidden there where they can be uplifted, inspired and most of all connected.
“I want a Jew to walk into Chabad of the East Village and right away know that they are home,” says Tani, who is passionate about Yidden being connected with each other and connected with the Torah and HaShem as they really are all one!
East Village takes you away from the skyscrapers and towers of the city and invites you into its own hub. Bustling with restaurants, vintage shops, art and music, it’s no surprise that the East village has always been the place for creativity and innovation. In fact, it’s been the birthplace of the punks and a haven for artists. East Village has once been the home to immigrants as well.
There is so much that to be done for the Jewish families and seniors of the East Village, who have never been properly catered to by Chabad. Rabbi Meir Lerman aims to make the East Village LIT, ablaze with the fire of Torah and Yiddishkeit!
“The East village has always been a place for revolutions and Chabad is about to be the biggest one yet!” said Rabbi Meir Lerman.
