New Shluchim to Alabama

Rabbi Yosef and Bina Goldwasser, along with their 2-year-old son Menachem Mendel, will be moving this summer from Crown Heights to Mobile, Alabama.

They will be setting up a new Chabad center, the first in the city which is the third most populous city in the state and the largest municipality on the Gulf Coast between New Orleans, Louisiana, and St. Petersburg, Florida.

“We are excited to fulfill our life’s dream by putting our skills, passion for Judaism and love of people into serving the spiritual needs of the Jews in Mobile with innovative, fun, and informative Jewish programming with a personal touch,” Rabbi Goldwasser told COLlive.

The team of rabbi and rebbetzin, Chabad’s model of operating, will be providing Torah classes, community events, Shabbos and Holiday meals and other services to the local Jewish population.

Yosef, a Pittsburgh native, received his rabbinic ordination from the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva in New York, after completing his day school education in Pittsburgh, and his higher level yeshiva studies in France.

Bina (nee Horvitz), raised in North Miami Beach, attended elementary school in Miami, high school in Chicago and Jewish Women’s Seminary in Safed, Israel, and worked in day camps for Jewish children from diverse backgrounds in Colorado, Indiana, Connecticut, and Maryland.

The announcement comes in connection with the 20th anniversary of Gimmel Tammuz and amid international interest in the continued growth of Chabad’s outreach network inspired by the Rebbe.
