New Couple Became Lifeline During Pandemic

JRCC Shluchim Rabbi Avrohom and Rochele Yusewitz arrived in Woodbridge, Ontario, barely 3 months before Covid hit.

Overnight, their mission went from starting to build a community to being a lifeline for local residents during the pandemic.

“Our Shlichus drastically changed instantly to literally being people’s lifeline,” Rabbi Yusewitz says. “Our doors are opened with the goal to bring together the local Jewish Russian community and to inspire joyful Judaism in all. We couldn’t possibly imagine the challenges this year would bring.”

“When COVID-19 shut the world down, we responded with light,” Rochele Yusewitz says. Creating a community in 2020 seemed impossible, but that’s exactly what began to form.”

With requests from every corner for help, spiritual nourishment, and connection; at JRCC Woodbridge we made it our mission to be a light.

To keep our Jewish family connected, strong, and healthy we started Shabbat package deliveries, one-on-one learning over zoom, weekly virtual women circle events, food packages to assist high-risk seniors and families in need, holiday services; both outdoors and at your doors! At a time where access to Jewish needs is so limited, we are here to provide for those needs. We were privileged to witness and assist with Kaddish services, baby-naming, and other Jewish life-cycle events.

As we embark on our second year, we look forward to strengthening our Jewish Woodbridge family. Over the next 36 hours we are embarking on a campaign with the goal to raise $15,000+. Partner with us today so we can continue to Light Up Lives with the joy and warmth of Judaism in Woodbridge.
