New Name For Kingston Pharmacy

A popular pharmacy in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights Jewish neighborhood has changed its name upon request from Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, the Israeli multinational pharmaceutical giant.

Teva Drugs at 319 Kingston Avenue was now renamed to Crown Drugs. A new sign up hung this week reflects the brand change of the store that has been in operation for 3 years.

“We decided to change our name once Teva Pharmaceuticals explained its concerns, that our name may cause some confusion with consumers,” store manager, Leah Dashevsky, told COLlive.com.

Owners bought the Crown Cosmetics store and turned it into a premier full-service community pharmacy with a full line of prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, as well as vitamins, cosmetics, beauty products and selection of perfumes.

“Some customers still refer to our store as ‘Crown Cosmetics’ as many Crown Heights residents still remember the old store,” says Ziva Endzweig, the Cosmetic Consultant at the pharmacy who worked at the Crown Cosmetics shop for 26 years.

Endzweig said not only she didn’t mind the change of the store’s name, but welcomed it. “The pharmacy’s new name, ‘Crown Drugs,’ makes perfect sense,” she said.

Sarah M., a longtime neighborhood resident, also believes that the new name is a good choice for the pharmacy, but for a different reason. Originally from England, she says that, “The excellent customer service in the store befits the crown.”

“We will continue to bring excellent service and value to Crown Heights residents, and keep on adding more new products to the store,” says Leah Dashevsky.
