With so many podcasts being created every day, one can’t help but wonder is there really a need?
Rabbi Yisroel Cotlar, Shliach to Cary, NC found himself wondering the very same thing when a friend suggested that he begin a podcast on Kitzur Shulchan Aruch.
He had been encouraging a group of people in his shul to begin learning Hilchos Hatzrichos from Kitzur Shulchan Aruch but found people saying it was too daunting to do on their own.
He decided to do some research and discovered that while there is an abundance of classes on every topic online, there is a void when it comes to guidance on basic Jewish living. The many excellent daily summaries of Kitzur Shulchan use terms unfamiliar to many people without a Yeshiva background.
Just a few weeks ago, Rabbi Cotlar launched a daily podcast going through Kitzur Shulchan Aruch. As a wider group from the Chabad House started listening, he started adding in helpful background information to these Halachos along with answers to contemporary questions people might have on the subject. Just seven minutes long, it provides a summary of the main ideas of that siman and concludes with an idea of Chassidus related to that day’s Halachos.
The goal is to open up the world of Halacha and practical Jewish Living to a wider audience and the study of Hilchos Hatzrichos, something that the Rebbe frequently encouraged.
