A special Simcha was celebrated honoring ten years of the M@TCh Shul in Crown Heights with the dedication of a new Torah scroll.
Current and former members of the Shul, who made the extra effort to fly in from different parts of the country to join in the unique celebration, united for the festive event.
The mantle for the Torah was dedicated by a group of friends in honor of Dovid Ciment OB”M, a Shul member who tragically passed away six years ago. The siyum was held at the Hecht home on Carroll street where the Shul originally started.
Because of a “Chabad House” sign on their entrance to the house, the Minyan was named M@TCH – an acronym for Minyan @ The Chabad House. During the siyum a gift of a Chita”s and picture of the Rebbe were presented to community activist Reb Benjy Stock in appreciation for hosting the shul at its second home, his father R’ Shimshon Stock OB”M’s home for many years before the shul moved to its current location at 543 Albany Ave.
The parade to Shul had much dancing and Simcha with many people on the streets joining in! A special stop was made at the home of Reb Shimshon Stock OB”M. His son Reb Benjy Stock led the Torah into his father’s house. The familiar scenes of the Shul’s old stomping grounds brought many mixed feelings of nostalgia and joy to the Shul members.
The parade was followed by a beautiful hachanasa of the Torah into the Shul, followed by lively Hakafos. There was a beautiful Seuda followed by a special 19 Kislev farbrengen led by the Shul’s Rabbi, Rabbi Yanky Raskin that went into the late hours of the evening.
