Moving Remake to “Aleh Katan”

Two Jewish music artists have teamed up, from two separate continents, to offer a remake to one of the most known Jewish songs in the last century, originally sung by superstar Avraham Fried.

Yishai Lapidot, the gifted composer of the touching Hebrew song Aleh Katan known for his Oif Simchas group, created a remake which was described as a moving tribute that metaphorically relates to the tumultuous nature of life.

Yiddish lyrics were added by Motti Illowitz and sung by Brooklyn chassidic wedding singer Shimmy Engel, who was with Hamizamrim men’s choir and released his debut album “Listen and Live” in 2010.

The music video of the remade was filmed on New York Jerusalem and streets by Danny Finkelman and Aaron Orian, respectively.

“When headlines seem to pit one Jew against another, this release of Aleh Katan is particularly timely,” says Finkelman, a Lubavitcher and head of Sparks Productions.

Moving footage shows Lapidot walking near Zaka volunteers in action poignantly illustrating the lyrics of this powerful song – that even in turbulent times we must stay true to ourselves and unite in anticipation of a brighter tomorrow, he said.
