After 8 full months, Israeli sculptor Yigal Avinoam has presented his most magnificent and most expensive work to date.
At a ceremony in the 770 building in Kfar Chabad, Avinoam opened a simple carton and pulled out a crown for a Torah scroll made from pure silver and coated with gold.
The four sides of the crown all show a replica of Lubavitch Headquarters 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, from where the Rebbe led the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
Over the 770’s, Avinoam carved our a miniature crown designed after the crown placed by the Rebbe on the Moshiach Sefer Torah some 40 years ago.
“Since I became a Baal Teshuva 8 years ago, I am very close to Chabad,” the artist told COLlive.com.
“I am very attracted to art that is connected to Chabad. So when I got this order (from a shul in Florida), I wanted to do it perfectly even though there were many details in it.”
He said he took the original building plan of 770 in Crown Heights and has worked based on those blueprints.
“This is not just a model of 770,” he points out, “this is an exact replica of 770.”
wierd
Well, it is original. Its very Israeli.
this is nothing to fight about thats not what the rebbe wanted
i love it!!!
beautiful!!!
moshiach now
all you gyes are bored!!
its a STUNNING crown! its very original
#19 it’s nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It does not sit well on the Sefer Torah. When you hold the Sefer Torah on an angle, the weight shifts and it is likely to fall off.
Thats one ugly crown, what a waste of money.
omg omg!!!!!! its stunning!
go sitbon!!!!
this crown is absolutely gorgeous!!!
and stop with these negative comments
i agree with # 6 – 7 – 8 – 9 -11
Torah in all its splendor brings out first the concept of humility. This is a little too nouveau riche.
it is beautiful!!!!!
And a metal crown IS holier than the Torah?
Is the kings crown more important than the king?
To 6:
I don’t know how anyone could be so sure of anything!
Although I must admit, this design for a Torah crown is pretty tasteless. What can I say…to each their own
I am with number 9 – doesn’t this suggest that 770 is holier than the Torah (as the Kesser which goes on and above it)
the workmanship is beautiful!!!
It’s a nice replica of 770 but it makes for a really ugly crown.
I mean come on, put a building on your head?
(or a Torah in this case).
kavod hatorah is beautiful but are there not more worthy causes for such an extravagent sum, like feeding poor yidden?
You see Motti Anati from the Moshiach Center in Ft Lauderdale, hes in the video and making everything out of 770 has always been his style.
what a waste of money !!!!! I am positiive that this is not what the Rebbe wanted…..
wow!!!!
It may be great, but it’s for a cause that is against the Rebbe’s institution of Shlichus.
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So where is it going is it staying in the Holy Land or is it going 2 Florida ?
