More Snow Headed to Tri-State

A blast of bitter cold has swept over the region, leaving many shivering in their boots and scarves Saturday evening.

A wind chill advisory was in effect for parts of the Tri-State area on Saturday until around noon. The National Weather Service issues the advisory only when the gusts can create temperatures on the skin that feel 20 degrees below zero, according to CBS2 Chief Meteorologist and Weather Producer Giorgio Panetta.

Also on the horizon for the Tri-State area is more predicted snowfall.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for New York City, northeast New Jersey and Long Island from Sunday at 7:00 PM to Monday at 6:00 PM.

Clouds are expected to increase throughout the day Sunday with highs in the low 30s. Light snow is expected to start Sunday evening and will pick up through the overnight hours into Monday, DeLucia reported.

The most recent forecast predicts a snow/mix/rain line will move northward into the city just in time for the morning commute on Monday. How far north this line moves will ultimately determine snowfall accumulations.

New York City, the north shore of Long Island, Westchester County and northern New Jersey could expect to see between 4 and 8 inches of snow by Monday evening, CBS2 Meteorologist Vanessa Murdock reported. Areas north and northwest of the city could be hit with 8 to 12 inches.

Areas south of New York City, including the south shore of Long Island, are expected to get about 2 to 4 inches of snow and places like Ocean County, New Jersey could only see about an inch, Murdock reported.

The New York City Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Sanitation are now prepping the city’s snow equipment, including salt spreaders and snow plows.
